The job of Child Nutrition Worker was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the foodservice activities at an assigned location with specific responsibilities for preparing and/or serving food items to students and/or school personnel; and maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition. This is a 6 hour/day position. The successful applicant must pass a criminal background check and the Department of Human Services Child Maltreatment Registry check. Specific site assignment to be determined.
Essential Duties:
- Arranges food and beverage items in a serving line for the purpose of serving them to students and staff in an efficient manner.
- Collects items to be processed (e.g. money, free and reduced meal applications, tickets, etc.) for the purpose of recording, reporting and/or sending on to other personnel.
- Collects payments for food items from students and staff (e.g. cash, ID scan, etc.) for the purpose of completing transactions and/or securing funds for food selection.
- Inventories food, condiments, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements.
- Maintains equipment, storage, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition (e.g. cleaning and sanitizing steam tables, trays, counters, pots, pans, utensils, etc.) for the purpose of complying with current health standards and ensuring the safety of prepared foods.
- Maintains stockroom (e.g. placing food and supply orders where they belong) for the purpose of ensuring a clean and safe work area.
- Prepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.
- Prepares letters to parents for the purpose of informing them of their student’s outstanding lunch account balance.
- Reconciles cash and credit receipts to meal counts for the purpose of maintaining accurate records and complying with established policies and/or procedures.
- Reports equipment malfunctions for the purpose of notifying supervisor of need for repair and/or replacement.
- Serves food items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
Other Functions:
- Consistently monitor district email to stay informed and respond promptly to important communications.
- Submit requested data and information in a timely manner.
- Attend all scheduled meetings organized by supervisors and district administrators.
- Complete necessary paperwork as directed.
- Demonstrate proficiency with workplace technology and adapt as needed.
- Prioritize safety by ensuring all doors and windows are securely locked.
- Respect the established chain of command in all interactions.
- Stay informed about and understand the district's crisis management plan.

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks using existing skills. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; and operating equipment found in a commercial kitchen.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures; quantify food preparation and handling; and sanitation practices.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with others; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem-solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem-solving with equipment is limited. Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 45% walking, and 50% standing. The ability to lift 50 pounds. The job is performed under temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
