Position : Elementary School Teacher (K-5)

 

Location:  TBD 

Direct Report:  Building Principal of assignment location

 

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Building Principal assigned, the teacher provides instruction to students while on-site, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing prompt and consistent feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers elementary school lessons consistent with school district curriculum, goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to best utilize the available time for instruction, that aligns with grade level expectations
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship, digital responsibility,  and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.  
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. 
  • Encourages parental engagement in students' education and ensures effective, consistent, and prompt communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate and assess curriculum as well as participate in faculty meetings and on committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate tools and equipment, and maintains inventory records.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs both onsite and virtually as administration and state requirements dictate.
  • Participates in and supports a positive school culture through the Professional Learning Community process.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, competency, an innovative spirit, and a cooperative attitude.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other Central Office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent. This is in no way meant to describe every duty expected and required for this position but rather to give an overview of the duties and expectations.

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Additionally, Smart or Promethean boards, document cameras, and assistive technology may be used.

 

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiation and student learning styles
  • Knowledge of Phonics First instruction strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Gentry School District curriculum, essential standards,  and essential concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system/software, virtual learning tools, & equipment
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work for a virtual setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively, consistently, and promptly with students and parents.
  • Ability to proficiently navigate learning platforms such as Google Classroom
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with building and district  faculty/staff members
  • Ability to maintain standards of behavior in digital interactions
  • Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, & colleagues

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office, remote learning,  and school building environments. Gentry School District is a high poverty school district. Employees will encounter students with exceptional needs.

              

Certification/License

  • Arkansas State Certification as a Teacher
  • Arkansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level/subject area preferred.

 

Education

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

 

Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is helpful but not required.
